News From the North.......
Greetings from the Great Land,
Just a bit of trivia. Alaska is the English version of Alyeska, which is Aleut for the Great Land. And it truly is a great land.
This month we want to introduce you to a friend of Mark’s. His name is Mathew Ondicho and he’s a pastor and evangelist in Kenya. Mathew is one of 7 children, born into a poor, rural family. Mathew was saved at 5, and by the time he was 7 he was preaching in public. He was so small he had to stand on a table so the congregation could see him. In 2007, God called him into the slums of Nairobi, some 250 miles from his home. Since then, he has planted several churches, conducted numerous crusades and established a feeding program for orphans and widows. Pastor Mathew and his wife, Vane, work side by side to advance the Kingdom, taking ground back from the enemy.
Now, Pastor Mathew serves a church of 120 folks, and cares for 30 orphans and numerous widows. He
and Vane continue to do the work of an evangelist, holding several crusades a year. He dreams of being able to provide more for the kids the Father has entrusted to him: things like medical care, schooling, better food and clothing. Mathew is the real deal, a servant and friend of God, loving the unloved, winning the lost and pursuing the Father’s heart.
It’s our hope that Mark will be able to visit him this November and help with the work of the Kingdom. We are planning a couple of evangelistic meetings, a seminar in his church and some time with other church leaders in the area.
ROMANIA/KENYA
Plans are progressing for this trip. Mark (and Julie) intend to leave Juneau on the 7th of November, which puts them in Romania on Saturday the 8th. After a week of ministry and working on the plans for the Leadership Training School, Mark will head for Kenya and Julie will return home. Mark will be in Kenya for 9 or 10 days of ministry, returning home on the 25th, just in time for Thanksgiving with the family.
INDIA
It’s coming together! It looks like Mark will be joined by at least 2 people for this trip. Greg Kinzle is a pastor from Iowa and Francis Pereira is a pastor and church planter from India. They’ll all be meeting in Pune for ministry to the Body there, then it’s off to a village in the northeast to minister in a church that Francis planted. Exciting stuff, going into areas where the Gospel is rarely, if ever, preached.
SOUTH SUDAN
This trip is still up in the air as the fighting continues. But our potential host is there now and this is starting to look like it will happen, we just need to get the timing from the Lord.
THE NEED
At current ticket prices, the cost of the Romania/Kenya trip is about $4800 if Mark goes alone, $6300 if Julie joins him. Airfare for this trip will need to be purchased by the end of September. Ticket prices are $2200 if Mark goes alone, and $3700 if Julie joins him.
India is a bit more now that we are adding $300 for another leg. That brings the cost for this trip to $4300.
Thanks again for all you do. Your prayers and your generosity are indispensable, and they are greatly appreciated. Blessings!
Yours for the Kingdom,
Mark & Julie
