“And you shall be witnesses unto me …unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

May has finally arrived, and on the 16th day of this month Bron, Jennifer and I will depart for Uganda. By the time you receive this newsletter, I will have been vaccinated for the 4th time for Yellow Fever, after which we can send in our visa applications, and then all the technical functions of preparing for a trip to a third world country will have been performed.

As you know, this is Jennifer’s and my first time to go into East Africa. Now Africa is Africa, so there will be many aspects of life in Uganda that are “familiar” territory. On the other hand, it will be “different”. We will be meeting new people and learning what their particular needs are, as well as where they are in their walk with the Lord. It is going to be an exciting time, and we are looking forward to it with much anticipation.
The most important part of any of these trips, of course, is to impart some spiritual life and truth to those who come to hear what God has laid upon our hearts for them. My topic for this time is “Be Filled With The Spirit”. The hardest part of these trips is making the journey, but once our feet stand on their land the grace and Spirit of the Lord take over. Jennifer will be working with the medical team that is joining us, and wherever else her skills are needed.

I am happy to report that all but $300 of our budgeted needs have been received, and I am very thankful to all who have given toward this outreach. Since our last newsletter, we have learned that the cost of our accommodations is going to be quite a bit more than we had anticipated. This means our budget will be short. I do not yet know by exactly how much. However, if the Lord moves on your heart to help with this added expense, it will be much appreciated. Please keep us in your prayers during this mission.

Nigeria is Not Forgotten
Just because the Leadership Conference had to be cancelled this year for the first time in 26 years, doesn’t mean that we have forgotten about Nigeria. Quite the contrary. The country still continues to be under attack.

On Thursday, April 26th, At least eight people were killed, including one suicide bomber, and dozens were wounded in three bomb blasts in central and northern Nigeria.

The targets of the first two bombings were newspaper offices, one in the northern city of Kaduna and the other in the central, capitol city of Abuja.

The third blast, in the northern state of Kaduna, was confirmed by emergency management officials, but no information on casualties or damage was available.

Then, just this morning, Sunday, April 29th, Gunmen attacked Christians worshipping on a Nigerian university campus in Kano, with witnesses reporting multiple explosions and gunfire. The number of casualties was not immediately clear, but it is up to at least 16. Please continue to hold Nigeria up in prayer with us.

We send our love and thanksgiving to you, our faithful partners. We pray a special prayer of blessing over your lives today that the grace and love of the Lord Jesus Christ will abound daily.

Because there are over 4.4 billion people in the world who still need Jesus, I remain

Yours in missions,

Mary Ann Cassidy
